Provide comprehensive HIV testing, treatment, and care to treat a disease that impacts all populations.

What

In Kenya’s Kisumu and Migori counties, the rate of new HIV infections remains high. Over the last decade and a half, CMMB has worked to enhance capacity at local health facilities to provide quality  HIV care—and to stop new infections from happening. We first started implementing HIV programming with the Kenya Red Cross Society in 2012.

Our interventions target adolescents and young people, men in high-risk settings, pregnant and lactating mothers, discordant couples, as well as the fisherfolk community by sharing information about HIV prevention, supporting psychosocial support groups, linking people living with HIV to health facilities, tracing defaulters, and facilitating outreaches.

For patients living with HIV, we provide access to antiretroviral medication and emphasize the importance of adherence. We also re-engage patients who have stopped taking their medication due to stigma or other reasons.

Another key focus of ours is the elimination of mother-to-child HIV transmission. We are making steady progress toward this goal through the creation of community-based support groups for pregnant women and new mothers.
