Cervical and breast cancer are the leading cause of death among women of reproductive age—and more cases are diagnosed each year. The trend is especially problematic in Kitui County, where breast and cervical cancers account for more than 50% of all cancer cases. With difficulties in accessing screening and treatment, women in Kenya often receive a late diagnosis. All too often, late detection means a poor prognosis. CMMB is improving cancer care by building and equipping health facilities, promoting preventive measures like the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination, and increasing screening services.
