Improve the health and lives of mothers and children under five and their families by empowering them with the resources they need to invest in a healthy future.
In rural parts of Kenya, like Kitui County, most people live in poverty. The maternal and child death rates are among the worst in the country. With healthcare options limited and often far away from rural populations, CMMB’s work focuses on bringing access closer.
CHAMPS, our signature Children and Mothers Partnership program, was launched in Kenya to remove the barriers to healthcare for women and their children. Since then, it has reduced the rate of maternal and child mortality and improved health. Its success has resulted in the program’s expansion into Kitui Central, Mwingi Central, and Mwingi North Sub-counties. The program’s impact is the result of community involvement, adaptation to local needs, and innovative techniques.
Sustainable Livelihoods
Many families lack the economic resources they need to afford the costs of healthcare or send their children to school. Many face severe food insecurity threatening their chance at a healthy future. Through CHAMPS, we fill these financial gaps with the provision of unconditional cash transfers. The support means families can build economic resilience and escape cyclical poverty.
